Dueling

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

This Golden Demon winning Duel was on display in Warhammer World back in 2007.

It comprises a Space Marine Chaplin on a bike fighting an Eldar Exodite on a giant lizard.

The Exodites were a concept that had Eldar using giant lizards as mounts and large mounts for weapons (in a similar way to Elephants or Squiggoths). It was never taken further by Citadel, though some Epic concepts were sculptured and cast, but never went on sale. The concept proved popular with some and as a result there is an unofficial codex out on the tubes and some lovely models such as this one.

Assault Marines

Thursday, March 14th, 2013

I was given a box of the Space Marine Assault Squad by my son, after thinking about painting them as Grey Knights I decided in the end to paint them as “normal” Marines.

I glued the chainsaw arms to the models.

They still need their other arms.

Space Marines who excel in the fury of close combat are organised into Assault squads and equipped with jump packs that allow them to take the fight to the enemy in brutal close-quarter fighting. Armed with a mixture of pistols and swords, they are terrifying foes in battle, dropping from above like flaming angels of death.

I was given a box of the Space Marine Assault Squad by my son, after thinking about painting them as Grey Knights I decided in the end to paint them as “normal” Marines. I wanted the bases to be different so made use of the resin pieces I had got from various basing kits and from the Mines, Bombs and Booby Traps box.

Space Marine Assault Squad Bases

The plastic models look relatively simple to construct, but I always seem to get caught out sticking on the arms and shoulder pads with GW Space Marines.

First stage was fixing the legs to the torso.

I then made up the jetpacks.

These were then affixed to the Marine bodies.

I do like the beaky helmets, problem for nostalgic reasons… pity you only get one in the box.

Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

Space Marine Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

I see from the Forge World previews for GamesDay 2012 that they are going to be releasing a new tank based on the original Land Raider.

Space Marine Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

The Typhon Heavy Siege Tank was named after the ‘Great Beast’ of Ancient Terran myth, this immense siege tank was developed by the Mechanicum alongside the Spartan, with which it shares a basic chassis design.

The Typhon’s primary armament is the massive Dreadhammer cannon, and was created in response to a request from the Primarch Peturabo, master of the Iron Warriors. He demanded a Legiones Astartes war engine that could rival the great batteries of the Imperial Crusade Army in firepower, but manoeuvre and deploy at the speed of a Space Marine force.

Very nice looking tank.
