Imperial Macharius Heavy Tank Armed with two Battle Cannons.
I do like this model, especially the Vulcan Mega Bolter variant, it looks very mean without looking too over the top. This is another well painted model, and beautifully weathered.
On show in the Forge World display cabinets at GamesDay 2008.
Back in November 2007 I wrote a blog post on the (then) new Forge World Macharius with Vulcan Mega Bolter.
I was astounded back then with the Heavy 15 capabilities of the Vulcan Mega Bolter. Throwing 15 dice on one go.
Well if resin isn’t your thing, then the forthcoming new plastic Shadowsword kit will make you happy as one of the variants you can make, the Stormlord, is armed with the Vulcan Mega Bolter! As you can see here from the Shadowsword box art from the latest White Dwarf.
Wonder how many of these models Simon is going to buy!
This photograph was taken at Games Day 2008 and uploaded live to the blog during the event.
So there I was looking at the Macharius with Vulcan Mega Bolter on the Forgeworld site, when I thought I would have a look at the rules for the Vulcan Mega Bolter (partly as Simon had mentioned that if he was going to get a Macharius he would get the one with the Vulcan Mega Bolter).
Imagine my surprise (and horror) when I looked at the stats.
Strength 6
Okay not so bad, but good enough to glance or penetrate Orky armour.
Range 60″
That’s a long way, basically the length of our average table we use for gaming, so no worries about not hitting anything on the table (unless there is something in the way).
AP 3
Well that means no saving throws for virtually everything I have.
Heavy 15
What!
Heavy 15
Really?
Fifteen dice for each shot.
I am not 100% sure but initially I thought the Vulcan Mega Bolter was twin-linked, but according to the PDF it isn’t.
Not that that makes a huge difference.
Hoping Simon will buy another Dreadnought instead.
Imperial Macharius Heavy Tank on display at the Forgeworld stand…
Imperial Macharius Heavy Tank Armed with two Battle Cannon, Twin Linked Heavy Stubber and two weapon sponsons. Sponsons can be equipped with either Heavy Bolters, Heavy Stubbers or Heavy Flamers. On display at the Forgeworld stand at GamesDay 2007.
The Forgeworld website now mentions three new models.
An Imperial Macharius Vulcan Heavy Tank armed with a Vulcan Mega Bolter, Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber and two weapon sponsons. A Tau Remora Drone controlled Stealth fighter aircraft armed with twin linked long barrelled Burst Cannons, a Networked Markerlight and two Seeker missiles. Finally a Death Korps of Krieg Quartermaster with three Servitors and an injured Korpsman.
